Book Review: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

by Krista

In honor of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday this year, I joined the Canterbury Classics Jane Austen Reading Challenge! If you would like to read or reread Austen’s six published novels, you can visit their official blog or various social media channels to learn more.

Perhaps you can tell that I am a fan of Austen since I have nine editions of Pride and Prejudice. I am a firm believer that one can never have too many copies of her favorite books!

Synopsis

Pride and Prejudice has charmed generations of readers for more than two centuries. Remarkably, the novel has never been out of print since its debut. It is famed for its witty, spirited heroine, sensational romances, and deft remarks on the triumphs and pitfalls of social convention.

Thoughts

I had last read this beloved book a decade ago, but the memorable characters felt just as fresh and entertaining this time around. That is undoubtedly one of the many reasons that this novel is an enduring classic. The story centers around the blossoming relationship between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich aristocratic landowner. While the slow burn, enemies-to-lovers central romance is arguably one of the best of all time, the banter is just as noteworthy. Ripe with gossip and plenty of opinions, this book leaves one wanting to meet the author for a spot of tea…because surely, she was just as fascinating as her characters.
