♡ Thank you for the free book + goodies, Dell Romance. Thank you for the free audiobook, PRH Audio.

I have all of Sarah Adams’s other books in my home library, so I was ecstatic when this book showed up on my doorstep just days before Christmas! This series is just the sweetest.

Synopsis

Emily Walker hates having her world disrupted by anyone, most of all her nemesis, Jack Bennett. He’s the opposite of the heroes she dreams up in her double life as a romance writer, which is why Emily was happy when Jack left Rome, Kentucky, mid-school year, with his fiancée. The last thing Emily saw coming was Jack’s return at the start of the summer after ending his relationship, but he’s here to stay—as her colleague and her neighbor.

Jack is eager to renovate his house and work on the next mystery novel under his bestselling pen name. But when he realizes he’s neighbors with the woman who has always pushed his buttons, he delights in the idea of thwarting Emily and her plans to sabotage his return.

With their animosity at an all-time high, Emily accidentally sends an email to their school’s principal that could reveal her literary side hustle. She needs to steal back her manuscript. And Jack, as much as she hates to admit it,  is just the man to help her. Surprisingly, Jack agrees. Will their unlikely alliance put an end to their rivalry?

Thoughts

I enjoyed visiting Rome, Kentucky for a third time! Book three in the When in Rome series was a fun read. I appreciated the story of Emily and Jack’s parallel lives—from family traumas to career choices—eventually merging and leading to a sweet HEA. Pick this up if you enjoy small town, enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine, mental health rep, romcoms, and low spice.
