Synopsis

Tao is an immigrant fortune teller, traveling between villages with just her trusty mule for company. She only tells small fortunes since she knows from bitter experience that big fortunes come with big consequences.

Even if it is a lonely life, it is better than the one she left behind. But a small fortune unexpectedly becomes something more when a semi-reformed thief and an ex-mercenary recruit her into their desperate search for a lost child. Soon, they are joined by an adventurous baker and a slightly magical cat.

Tao sets down a new path with companions as big-hearted as her fortunes are small. But as she lowers her walls, the shadows of her past are closing in—and she will have to decide whether to risk everything to preserve the family she never thought she could have.

Thoughts

This is a cozy story bursting with the love of found family, life lessons, and a bit of magic. I found it easy to bond with our main character, Tao. I enjoyed following her caravanning adventure of discovery. Despite a bit of sadness, this book is full of loveable characters, hope, and love. Check this one out if you are in need of a little comfort read.

★★★★☆

☊ Listening to this via audiobook was wonderful. Narrator Phyllis Ho did a wonderful job.
