Synopsis
Katrina Freeling and Nathan Van Huysen were the brightest literary stars on the horizon. But on the heels of their greatest success, they ended their partnership on bad terms, for reasons neither would divulge. They haven’t spoken since, but they have one final book due on contract.
Facing crossroads in their personal and professional lives, they’re forced to reunite. The last thing they thought they’d do again is hole up together in a tiny town to finish a manuscript.
While passion and prose push them together, Katrina and Nathan will learn that relationships, like writing, sometimes take a few rough drafts before they get it right.

Thoughts
This was a light and fun read, which is something that I always appreciate. The straightforward plot made for fast reading. The only downside to a story like this is that there are no surprises, which can make it feel a bit dragged out. That said, I didn’t feel that was a big problem here.
Knowing that this story was co-authored by a well-educated married couple who write books together, I couldn’t help but imagine that they mixed some non-fiction with fiction when writing this book about a couple who write together, in good times and in bad. The writing sometimes felt a bit overthought and perhaps pretentious, but this can be a hallmark of a good education.
The female and male main characters are neither angels nor likable to some degree, but that is what makes them real. I appreciate that their problems in relationship and career seem believable and interesting. I was satisfied with the conclusion of their story, too.
The Roughest Draft is a good book if you enjoy a quick fictional romance set in the publishing world.
