After her grandmother’s death, June discovers a series of cryptic clues regarding her mother’s decades-old disappearance, except they only lead to more questions. But could the door she once assumed was a hallucination be the answer she’s been searching for? When she finally walks through it, June embarks on a journey that will not only change both the past and the future, but also uncover the lingering mysteries of her town and catch her heart in an epic star-crossed love.

Thoughts
For a book that I felt lukewarm about based on its synopsis when I chose it as my BOTM selection, The Unmaking of June Farrow sure surprised me by being unputdownable! I finished it in a day, needing to know what exactly happened to the Farrow women and what it all meant for June, whom I found to be an endearing main character. The book’s characters were richly developed, so although I typically don’t reach for a mystery, this story kept me engaged. And the plot, with its various timelines, was so confusing that I just had to see it all ironed out in the end. And I did!
This book contained both soul and suspense in equal measure. I came away from it feeling that the story’s heart came from familial love, faith, and trust. And as June worked tediously to piece her story together, I was on tenterhooks right there with her, wondering how it would all end. This story won me over, and that is a satisfying feeling as a reader.
