This is what happens when you send a bookish girl shopping for the holidays. Sure, I’ve crossed some things off my list for loved ones, but a few books for me fell into my cart, too. These were too good to resist! Hopefully I’m still on Santa’s Good Girl List, despite being a wee bit selfish.
About These Books
- Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child, Louisette Bertholle, and Simone Beck: Featuring 524 recipes, this 50th anniversary edition is a definitive guide to cooking. It caught my eye because it reminded me of my grandmother, who exposed me to Julia Child’s television shows in the early 1980s.
- The Magic of Seeds by Clare Gogerty: This cover’s vintage flair captured my attention in the bookstore. I enjoy gardening, so love that this book teaches you how to sow and harvest various seeds. As a magic enjoyer, I love that it also includes snippets of folklore and traditions about the seeds. We offer a seed exchange in our little free library, so I look forward to cultivating my seed skills!
- Our Kindred Home by Alyson Morgan: Sometimes I like a good coffee table refresh, and this countryside cover drew me in. Interestingly, its depth goes beyond pretty pictures and information about herbalism. It also explores environmental crisis and ecological grief. I’ve yet to plunge into this one, but it seems that I will learn something.
